NIO unveiled its highly anticipated ET9 on December 21st. Positioned as a large pure electric executive sedan, the ET9 is the first vehicle built on the NT 3.0 platform. Two configurations have been introduced: a standard version priced at 788,000 yuan and a limited-edition launch version with a price tag of 818,000 yuan. Both versions offer a battery rental option, reducing the price to 660,000 yuan and 690,000 yuan respectively. Notably, the ET9 features 17 world-first technologies and over 50 industry-leading advancements. Deliveries of the limited-edition launch version are slated to commence in March 2025, followed by the standard version.
The new car’s exterior stays true to the brand’s design language, featuring an active air intake at the lower bumper for improved aerodynamics. The split headlights utilize Micro LED wide-angle lighting modules, eliminating glare for oncoming drivers and providing additional functionalities like lane line illumination.
The side profile of the new car features a sleek, aerodynamic design, while the roofline is exceptionally smooth. With 17 optimized aerodynamic features, the car achieves a drag coefficient of 0.243. The NIO ET9 measures 5324mm in length, 2016mm in width, and 1620mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3250mm. It comes with dual-tone exterior mirrors integrated with welcome lights, as well as a choice of five wheel designs ranging from 22 to 23 inches, flush-mounted wheel badges, and an active adjustable rear spoiler.
Additionally, the car features a power-operated, sensor-activated front trunk with a capacity of 105L and a rear trunk with a capacity of 544L. To facilitate loading and unloading, the vehicle’s height is automatically lowered when opening either the front or rear trunk.
The interior of the NIO ET9 features the innovative Skyline display, which extends across both the driver and passenger sides, providing essential vehicle information and enabling the passenger to access entertainment functions. A 15.6-inch AMOLED floating central touchscreen takes center stage, running the SkyOS operating system that seamlessly integrates vehicle control, intelligent driving features, cabin functions, and mobile connectivity. Moreover, the front row is equipped with a full-focus AR HUD and the intelligent NOMI AI assistant. For enhanced interaction, the vehicle introduces three external microphones that work in conjunction with NOMI Mate.
The rear seating area features a “Sky Island” and “Executive Bridge” design, equipped with two 14.5-inch NIO Link panoramic interconnected executive screens and an 8-inch rear center control screen. Additionally, the interior includes seven sunshades, covering the rear window, triangle windows, rear windshield, and panoramic roof, and supports a “one-touch privacy” mode. Other features include an intelligent electric refrigerator, an executive desk, a central safe, and three 50W wireless charging pads (two in the front and one in the rear).
For intelligent driving, the NIO ET9 is equipped with the Aquila 2.0 super sensing system, comprising 31 high-precision sensors including ultra-long-range LiDAR, 4D imaging radar, dual-side wide-angle LiDAR, 8MP HD cameras, and 3MP surround-view cameras. It also features two self-developed 5nm intelligent driving chips – Shenji NX9031, enabling full-scenario intelligent driving coverage in highways, urban areas, parking, and switching scenes. NOP+, the full-scenario pilot assist system, can autonomously change lanes, overtake, adjust speed, and navigate in highways, urban expressways, and open urban roads. Coupled with the ADAM 2.0 central supercomputing platform, it can realize V2X scenarios such as green wave speed guidance, vehicle entry payment, communication with NIO battery swap stations/supercharging stations, and vehicle automatic platooning.
For passive safety, the NIO ET9 adopts a steel-aluminum-magnesium alloy composite body structure and 2000Mpa hot-formed high-strength steel. It comes standard with 9 airbags and LLA adaptive load-limiting seat belts. Additionally, it is equipped with a high-speed tire blowout safety control system that can identify a tire blowout in milliseconds and quickly adjust the vehicle’s posture through the Air suspension system to minimize instability after a blowout. The high-speed rear-end collision protection system can raise the vehicle by 40-50mm within 0.7 seconds, increasing the structural overlap between the vehicle and a truck in the event of a collision to protect the occupant compartment.
For power, the NIO ET9 adopts a full-scenario 900V high-voltage architecture and super-fast charging and swapping platform. It utilizes a silicon carbide high-performance pure electric four-wheel drive system with a front motor producing 180kW, a rear motor producing 340kW, and a combined system torque of 700 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Equipped with a 100kWh battery, the CLTC range is 620km (with 23-inch wheels) and 650km (with 22-inch wheels). Moreover, it can replenish 255km of range in just 5 minutes and be swapped in 3 minutes.
The chassis features the SkyRide suspension system, which integrates a hydraulic fully active suspension to instantaneously adjust stiffness, damping, and height, providing a smooth and comfortable ride. The standard ground clearance is 200mm, and the active suspension can adjust the height by -50mm to +40mm. The maximum wading depth is 630mm. Additionally, the NIO ET9 is equipped with SkyRide steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering, reducing driver fatigue and improving maneuverability in tight spaces.
