On the evening of February 14th, Wuling officially launched the Wuling Zhi Guang EV, a new all-electric multipurpose vehicle. Two variants are available, with prices ranging from ¥47,800 to ¥50,800 (US$6,580 – US$7,000). Featuring a boxy exterior design, the car offers ample interior space and flexible layout options. It also supports external power supply and fully flat-folding seats, targeting both individuality and practicality in the multipurpose vehicle market.

Exterior Design:
The Wuling Zhi Guang EV features a straightforward, boxy front design with a closed grille housing the charging port. LED daytime running lights are embedded in the headlight units on either side. The front bumper features a continuous air intake design, with C-shaped flow channels on each side, adding a sporty touch.

The side profile showcases the “K-Car” style, which ensures efficient use of space inside. It continues the classic sliding door design with a wide 595mm opening. The roof is equipped with a luggage rack. The rear end also carries a boxy design with a nearly 90° opening angle for the tailgate, and a low loading height of just 569mm, making it easier to load and unload. Its dimensions are 3685mm in length, 1530mm in width, and 1765mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2600mm.
Interior Design:

Inside, the Wuling Zhi Guang EV continues the brand’s minimalist approach, with physical buttons and knobs on the dashboard for ease of use. A simple monochrome LCD instrument panel is positioned behind a two-spoke steering wheel, and the infotainment system is located above the air conditioning vents, offering basic radio functions. The vehicle also adopts a rotary gear shifter.

The seats are versatile, with both the front passenger and rear seats able to fold flat. The trunk has a starting capacity of 527L, which expands to 1117L when the seats are fully folded. Several mounting holes are available inside the vehicle, allowing for the installation of additional accessories such as folding tables, storage compartments, and racks, providing plenty of storage space.
Powertrain and Performance:

The Wuling Zhi Guang EV is powered by a 30kW rear-mounted electric motor and a 17.7kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a pure electric range of 201 kilometers. The vehicle supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes. The higher-end variants also feature external power supply capabilities, with a maximum output of 3.3kW. Both the front and rear compartments are equipped with 12V DC power outlets, with a maximum discharge power of 120W, enabling the use of small appliances like car refrigerators and ambient lighting.
The Evolution of Wuling Zhi Guang:
The Wuling Zhi Guang has been a familiar name since its launch in November 2002 in China, having become a key player in China’s micro-car segment. As urbanization surged in the early 2000s, millions of rural and urban residents began their pursuit of a better life, and the Wuling Zhi Guang emerged to meet that demand. As the pioneer of microcars, it became a symbol of the “struggle for a better life” and helped over 5.34 million families realize their dreams of wealth creation. In recognition of its impact, Forbes called it “the most important car on Earth.”
As Wuling enters the new era of electric commercial vehicles, the brand remains committed to adapting to market needs. With the rise of new economies like the digital economy, new agriculture, and the pet industry, users’ needs are shifting from simple practicality to a desire for more diverse and personalized options. The Wuling Zhi Guang EV, under the concept of “Freedom Light,” redefines the commercial vehicle for a new era, addressing users’ need for space freedom, cargo flexibility, and freedom in travel. The arrival of the Zhi Guang EV marks a leap from the “Struggle Light” to the “Freedom Light.”
